We are finally done (almost) with furnishing our front room which is labeled as “the formal living room” on our house’s floor plan. When we bought this house, we knew we weren’t going to use the room as a “formal living room” with matching couches, center coffee table, and having tea and conversation with house guests who dropped by. No way…we wanted to make the house livable for us, and we also needed a place to shelve the multitude of boxes of books in our garage.
Our goal was to turn it into a home library, but also a room in which we could take advantage of a lack of TV. It turned into a great room for reading and games and family time. And lots more reading. Here are the pictures…
Yes, that’s a ladder on the left side of the room, mostly because that’s how I pictured a home library to look. The room (and our budget) wasn’t quite big enough to have a wall of shelves with one of those ladders that slide back and forth. So we will decide if this aesthetically functional ladder from IKEA is worth schlepping across the room to reach the high shelves. Or if it would be better-suited back at IKEA.
JJ enjoyed some alone time with his music in there the other day. He tolerated my interruption with the camera…for a few minutes.
